Internet Restriction for Offenders
Since there is no Federal Laws influencing the rules of the internet and its online abuses, a few states are stepping up and making some guidelines. With technology moving at full speed our government has hardly had the time to catch up. Just a few states, like
NJ Law to Ban Internet for Predators
In New Jersey legislation is being made to limit Internet access for convicted sex offenders. The hope of this bill is that it prevents sex offenders from luring children into real life liaisons.
“No matter how much you trust your kids, no matter how much you think you know what they’re doing, there are some sick people out there that will stop at nothing to prey on them,” stated Senate President Richard Codey during the bill signing.
Soldier Grooms a Young Bride
Too often we read about how the police are putting themselves in between predators and children online. We read about the arrest and wonder if there really are young people out there being groomed by the online predators. When the investigators are casting their nets only a few predators are ensnared and the rest go swimming down the information super highway looking for their next prey to groom.
This time the FBI caught a predator that escaped their nets and found a young 13-year-old girl. Lance Cpl. Johnathan Plaisance spent the last six months grooming his “friend.” Bought a diamond ring for marriage, planned his Christmas leave with her, and rented a hotel room along Route 28.
Facing 20 years in Prison
Joaquim Enrique Santana didn’t quite get the Christmas Present he was hoping. After having several online conversations with what he thought was a 13-year-old
Police are Friends on MySpace
If your child uses MySpace, and if you have “friends” you have never met in person, then you may be in contact with online predators. One really simple and effective way to scare away online predators from wanting to befriend you on MySpace is to add your local police department to your friends list.
5 More Arrests!
Over the last several months the Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force has been busy. They have been online in chat rooms all of us use; pretending that they are underage girls, as a barrier to real 14-year-olds.
This week they arrested 5 men for the felony offense of trying to solicit a child for sexual contact. The men chatted with police investigators. Some of their conversations included discussions about sex. The men said things like:
Outlawing Online Harassment of a Child
Another one Bites the Dust. . .
. . . and another one, and another one . . .
There really is not profile of an online predator. They come from all states, all walks of life, all ages, but most are male. Take this weeks’ arrests for example:
Michael Daniel Blackman, 26-year-old, honorably discharged Army private from
Brian D. Gamble, 25, of
Exploitation of a Teen
Not all online predators meet up with an undercover police officers posing as 13-year old girls. Some online predators actually do get their claws into real teenage girls online like in the case of Patrick Halsey Jr., 21, of Sycamore, Ill. His encounter with a girl he met online had some rather unfortunate consequences for both of them.
Patrick meet a young girl online, lets just call her Sarah (the minor’s name was not released for obvious reasons). After exchanging emails with Sarah for a while Patrick began to sexually exploit her.
